The global content industry is booming with inspiration, fresh ideas, and, of course, quality content. There’s far more than the mere creation of digital content that goes into the entertainment and media industry. MIPCOM was born as a result of a need to meet and share ideas, creativity, and strategies in order to make the entertainment industry, well, entertaining. To put it into layman’s terms, companies like Netflix, AMC Networks, Sony, NBC, Universal, National Geographic and more will be attending to discuss their next moves. Still not really sure what this tradeshow is all about? Here’s everything you need to know to prepare for the upcoming Cannes MIPCOM 2018!
MIPCOM is heavily attended by TV studio reps, broadcasters, producers, distributors, buyers, and investors. This trade show takes place every year in October and has been a hit since 1985. The objective of this trade show is to improve the entertainment industry’s content. MIPCOM is divided into 5 participating parties:
- Distributors, Sales Agents, and Producers
- Broadcasting Groups
- Regionally Represented Pavilions
- Digital Platforms
- IPs owners, Content Creators, Studios, Media Influencers, PR and Investors
MIPCOM exists to enhance collaboration, spread content, and increase partnerships. Not to mention, if you’re lucky, to showcase up-and-coming TV sensations!
This year’s theme has been declared as THE BIG SHIFT, Transitioning to a Reshaped Media Landscape. Tim Davie, CEO of BBC Studios, and Josh Sapan, President and CEO of AMC Networks, are the first confirmed MIPCOM 2018 Keynote Speakers.
Tim Davie will be addressing topics such as strategic partnership in the entertainment industry. Not to mention, he’s going to exclusively showcase some of BBC Studio’s latest premium titles! Tim Davie has had an impressive career, formerly working in marketing positions at major companies such as Proctor & Gamble and PepsiCo, and has developed an astonishing career at BBC. He appeared on the Guardian’s list of Top 100 Influential People, and is now not only the CEO of BBC Studios but the Director of BBC Global as well! You don’t want to miss what he has in store for MIPCOM 2018. He is scheduled to speak on 15 October, put it in your agenda!
Josh Sapan will be addressing entertainment industry innovation, how today’s transitioning media is evolving, and what the future has in store for the industry. He has held the position as CEO and President of AMC for over 20 years! Sapan will enlighten his audience on how he turned AMC from a domestic U.S. cable broadcasting company into a global force. Mad Men, The Walking Dead, and Better Call Saul are just a few major titles programmed by Sapan. He will speak on 16 October, so mark your calendars, ladies and gents!
MIPCOM takes place at the famous Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France. Cannes is located in the heart of the gorgeous French Riviera.
From 15 – 18 October 2018 you can enjoy all that Cannes MIPCOM 2018 has to offer.
Don’t know your way around the French Riviera? Here you can find a wealth of information about different ways to get to Cannes. From helicopters to trains, private chauffeurs, to buses – the possibilities are endless. What’s more, these transportation options fit all different types of budgets!
The closer to the Palais des Festivals, the better. As a rule of thumb, it’s best to stay close to the Cannes “banana” to be within walking distance of everything. However, just because you’re staying on La Croisette, it doesn’t mean you’ll be close to the Palais. La Boulevard de la Croisette is a 2km stretch. It doesn’t sound like much, but in heels or a 3-piece suit, the steps (and sweat) certainly add up. You can find some available MIPCOM 2018 accommodation here for you and your team!
